The strategic early retreat was so successful that the next day turned into an all-day agony session, spiced up with some industrial-grade pizza baking.
In the afternoon, news came that Talismann called it quits, so the evening’s plan had to change, with the party moving to the ship’s bow in a slightly scaled-down version.
Lately, the Technokunst team has had a tough time when it came to international performers showing up. However, so far, everything has always been communicated clearly about what was going on, and the replacements turned out brilliantly.
This time, though, it felt like Mr. Talismann dropped the ball big time, and if that’s the case, then he deserves a big “screw you.”
We managed to summon Feryke with a six-hour-long ritual mating dance, around 10 PM or so (it seems that’s when the dark forces strike), leaving us in a similar state to him—pushed to the brink of madness after his private side quest during the day. Since we were already in a half baked Debrecen mood, we quickly washed down a starting/reviving Club-Mate with a few spritzers, and the planning for the evening strategy could begin.
In the end, the plan became “go late, leave early,” so we headed to A38. What could go wrong? On the way in, it was reassuring to see only a few people trickling out, but we were there for the music, not the crowd, so it didn’t matter much.
Upon arrival, during the usual process of assimilation, we caught the tail end of Isu & Valens’ closing set. We didn’t hear enough to analyze it properly, but knowing them, it must have been killer.
Then came the first surprise: Dorka was next! I was thrilled since I’m a huge fun, and I thought there was no way I’d have the energy to stay until the end.
The next surprise followed immediately—the sound system of the venue was phenomenal. Both I and my lovely assistant, Feryke, loved it, so everything was set for some epic fun.
Let me take this opportunity to send a message to those whining in online groups about what is and isn’t “real techno”: just come and listen. Dorka delivered such a masterclass in techno that we’re still sitting here wide-eyed like fish in a bag.
There’s no point trying to explain it further because the next bonus surprise came right after. The plan was to crawl home as soon as Dorka finished, and then not look for anyone until summer.
But somehow, her set got us so fired up that we decided to stay and see how Valens would handle the situation since the bar had been set incredibly high.
And handle it he did. He grabbed that bar and raised it even higher, continuing the madness in spectacular fashion. We ended up sticking around for a while longer because, honestly, we had no choice.
Which raises the question: why the hell don’t we just go to events with local performers when we have such insanely talented artists right here?
(Thanks for the weekend: Galactic Jackson, Isu, Mode, Dorka, Valens, and of course, Feryke.)
Next weekend, the Old Lady will be bringing the clangs and acid vibes with Santa at the Fabrika, so see you there—and go support your local artists.
Cheers! (Tső)
